Sitting here in the dog days of winter, I was searching for new toy to put in my bag of tricks. I didn’t want to spend much coming out of the holidays but I felt the need to buy something. This was the first weekend of the annual orchid extravaganza, an event we have visited and photographed each of the past four years. It was a little over a week ago that Barb and I spent our 40th anniversary wandering through the gardens at Longwood (Kennett Square, PA). This is one my favorite early Spring wildflowers. Last year I found a few along my local stream and made a few images. Then they were gone. As this Spring came around, I started to look forward to seeking them out once again. Saturday evening, I found my first Trout Lilies of [...] After shooting an entire series of images between f/16 and f/22 and changing perspectives and compositions (see Calla Lily and Calla Lily #2), I was ready to wrap up the Calla Lily session. But then, almost as an afterthought, I thought I would like to open up the aperture, reduce the depth of field [...] Okay, made it through Easter dinner, everyone has left and everything is pretty much cleaned up. And there are leftovers to get us through the upcoming week! So it’s time to get back to the Calla Lily series. I feel that I worked these lilies hard trying to come up with interesting compositions.
