About Me

I am a social observer and have been for as long as I can remember… much longer than I have been a photographer. As I say in my artist’s statement, I am an inveterate people watcher and this despite the fact that I am basically an introvert. Maybe it is what led me to degrees in psychology. During my younger days before I ever thought of picking up a camera and recording what I see, I used to love watching people do what they do naturally in familiar and unfamiliar surroundings… in parks, airports, and on the streets.
My life as a social observer eventually led me to pick up a camera and record what I see. As I continued to develop as a photographer, my focus on social observational photography became all the more clear. What also became clear was the fact that the journey I was (and still am) on is not just about the people I photograph. It is as much about me, who I am, and how I fit into society. I find myself on a journey toward self-discovery. As I have often said, I see myself in the people I photograph. The more I learn about them, the more I learn about myself.
I hold degrees in Psychology from Moravian College and Lehigh University, both in Bethlehem, PA, and have worked in advertising and marketing at both advertising agencies and in the private sector for 30+ years. I am now retired and devoting all my efforts to photography and my journey toward self-discovery.
I (along with my wife, muse and fellow traveler, Barbara) live in the same small town in Pennsylvania where I was born and raised.
My work has recently been exhibited in solo shows in the following museums and galleries:
